✨ A Collector’s Treasure — Belgian Studio Pottery by Roger Guérin
This rare 10-piece vintage tea set is a remarkable example of mid-century Belgian studio pottery, handcrafted in the esteemed atelier of Roger Guérin in Bouffioulx, circa 1945–1954. Known for his masterful use of glazes and timeless forms, Guérin was one of the most influential ceramic artists in post-war Belgium.
Each piece in this set — including eight cups, a lidded sugar pot, and a beautifully sculpted teapot — is wheel-thrown in stoneware, finished with a signature deep blue drip glaze that softly blends into natural sandy tones. The interior of each piece remains unglazed, showcasing the earthy texture of the original clay.
But what makes this set truly exceptional is its markings:
- Each item is impressed with a unique atelier code (such as TSC2 X/Y and CFC2), used internally at the Bouffioulx workshop.
- Most pieces are signed “Guérin”, confirming the master’s hand.
- The teapot is intriguingly marked by R. Gonia, a known assistant within the Guérin studio — making this set a documented collaboration.
One of the most distinctive features is the rare circular grid stamp, seldom seen in public collections, believed to be an internal quality mark used for limited production series.
This set is more than a beautiful table service — it is a piece of ceramic history.
